Script Development
Before the camera comes out of the box, it should be absolutely clear what the objective is. Who is the intended audience? What the key points? What shots will be required to get the message across.

Style & Treatment
Will it be quiet and laid back, moderately pacy, or fast, furious and in-your-face? The speed of delivery or tempo, is often set by the duration of each shot (e.g. fast cutting or slow dissolves), but will most likely be defined by the subject itself. Clearly, any dialogue or narration will be written with this in mind.
The Schedule
Most videos have a beginning, a middle and an end, but the shooting order may follow a different path. Things can easily become a logistical nightmare if a schedule isn't available. It's very boring, but will save lots of time.
