Gathering the Assets
The edited video assets must first be encoded to MPEG-2 using the minimum amount of compression that will enable it to fit on the disk. The sound assets must also be compressed and encoded into Dolby AC3, as otherwise it would take up almost as much space as the source video.
Authoring the Menu
The term authoring refers to the mind bending exercise of making all the buttons and tracks interconnect. When multiple languages or really clever visual effects are required, a number of small scripts will also need to be created.
